Today is the day to "Garage Sale".

This means it's time to get rid of all your old junk. Because one man's trash is another man's treasure. Why is today the day? Well, my good friends in Madison, WI are having a garage sale today to prepare for moving to Maine. And as with anything that we do externally, we also have the opportunity to do internally. So in addition to taking a second look at material possessions it's a good day to take an inventory of your thoughts and let go of the ones that are not really useful.

This morning I woke up and I thought, well I thought I was thinking but the idea that I "became aware of" is that my thoughts are not really "mine" but that they just pass through me. And sometimes I have a tendency to hang on to particular thoughts. For example, I've been hanging on to this thought that things have to be perfect before I can do anything.

You can probably already imagine how crippling this idea is. First we have to define what is "perfect". But you can't experiment to discover what is "perfect" because things have to be "perfect" first in order to do anything, remember? How about instead of being caught in this catch-22 we let go of the idea of things being having to be "perfect" and just allow things to be as they are. Allow ourselves to learn and grow instead of always striving for some end result, instead of striving for some kind of "perfection". With this perspective we can allow ourselves to have more fun along the way. Life is about the journey, not the destination.

Today's song is "Suītopī", Japanese for sweet pea, whose name means "good bye". We say good bye as we let go.
